Hospice Nursing

What to expect from your hospice nurse visit?

The hospice nurse visit usually last between 30 minutes-1 hour. During the hospice visit the nurse will get to speak one on one with the patient and identify their needs. Family members are also encouraged to participate in the hospice visit as that can reinforce the needs of the patient. The hospice nurse will check the patient vital signs, assess the patient with a complete head to toe assessment, and identify any needs of the patient or family. During the visit the nurse will refill the patient’s med box if needed and monitor medication counts.  If the patient is getting low on a certain medication, the hospice nurse will order a refill, pick up, and deliver the medication the next visit. Nursing services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. An on-call nurse is available for after hours for emergency purposes.
